Honduras is situated right between North and South America, in the very heart of Central America, with two coastlines.

It is bordered by Guatemala, El Salvador, and Nicaragua, with the pacific Ocean on one side to the south and to the North by the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.

 

The Caribbean Sea has by far the bigger coastline and by and large this article will be about the Caribbean Vacation aspect of Honduras, including places such as Roatan. This coastline is a relatively undiscovered vacations spot, and yet it has long stretches of beautiful beach, warm weather, and just off the coast are the Bay Islands surrounded by the second largest coral reef in the world. In fact Honduras has over 600 kilometres of Caribbean white sand beaches, and some of the best diving sites in the Caribbean, particularly around the Bay Islands.

 

The places to go for an unsurpassed Caribbean Vacation Spot in Honduras includes, Omoa, Puerto Cortes, Tela to the north west. In the north is La Ceiba, Cayo Conchinos, Trujillo, and of course the Bay Islands. The beaches are probably the best known of the destinations in Honduras.

 

Honduras is also famous for its archaeology, and it has one of the Maya Worlds most beautiful and quite probably the best preserved sites, especially  Maya Copan near the border with Guatemala.

 

The culture of Honduras is very unlike the USA or any of the developed countries for that matter, and yet it isn’t far from the

USA and not difficult to access. It is only a two and a half hour non stop flight from Miami, but a different world where eco tourism is becoming a real growth industry, especially as many people’s leisure time increases. You need to understand that Honduras and Costa Rica are quite different, but if old fashioned unspoilt nature is something that is important to you, then Honduras would be a great choice for a Caribbean vacation.

 

Another great plus about Honduras, is that it isn’t expensive when you compare it to the rest of the Caribbean. You will get real value for money against any major currency. Transport costs, food, hotel prices are all as reasonable as you will find anywhere else in the world.

 

You can add to this, the size of Honduras. It is small enough to be able to leave the Caribbean beaches and go exploring the ancient civilization sites without it having to take up huge amounts of time.

 

The weather is a factor in any Caribbean Vacation and Honduras is no exception. The Caribbean coast is very hot with rain throughout the year. The best time to visit is between February and March when the climate is relatively dry but the vegetation is still a striking green

 

Possibly the only negative element in Honduras is personal safety issues, especially in the large cities, and on the coast.

Just take common sense precautions, such as not walking late at night, because taking a taxi is safer, and don’t leave your belongings unattended on the beach.

When traveling to the interior by road, don’t travel at night and be wary especially on buses.

 

Overall Honduras is the original republic. You will enjoy the slow pace of life, the natural beauty, and the way tourism is very low profile. If you want to get off the beaten track, then carry some good insect repellent!!
